PVT condensation ice storage system +++

Our condensation ice storage system is a technically ingenious addition designed to maximise the efficiency, self-sufficiency and system integration of our PVT hybrid collectors and a brine heat pump in the single-family home sector.

It is used as a mixing tank / hydraulic manifold to ensure a consistent source temperature for the heat pump. It also stands out thanks to its 3+ features:

+ Ice storage for high thermal storage capacity
+ Energy source derived from condensation and dehumidification
+ Cold storage for summer cooling

Mixing tank

In the condensation ice storage system, the PVT circuit and the heat pump circuit are combined. The aim is to provide the heat pump with a consistent source temperature that is as high as possible.

Energy storage

  • The condensation ice storage tank provides sufficient energy at low temperatures when the PVT collectors are no longer able to supply enough energy to maintain the heat pump’s source temperature.
  • This helps to bridge short cold spells lasting several days.

Your benefit: a higher, more consistent source temperature results in a higher COP and lower running costs!

+ Ice storage for high thermal storage capacity

The condensation ice storage unit contains a water reservoir which, when outside temperatures are low, is cooled to such an extent that ice forms. This releases heat, which is used to heat the heat pump circuit.

+ Energy source from condensation and dehumidification

The formation of ice cools the air in the room where the storage tank is installed, causing the water vapour (which is always present in the air) to condense. This process also releases heat of condensation!

+ Cold storage for summer cooling

On hot summer days, the condensation ice storage system can store cold at night by releasing excess heat via the PVT hybrid collectors. This stored cold can then be used to cool the building during the day.
